You don’t have to look long at the new exhibition in LEGO House to realise where you are. Billund has found its way among Christmas traditions from Mexico, Australia, the Philippines and many other places around the world.
Today, a special edition of Masterpiece Gallery opens, featuring 17 LEGO designers and employees from different parts of the world who have been given the task of building their own interpretation of the theme “Home for Christmas”. And several of them have ended up right here in Billund.
Danish builder Mads Bergholz Frederiksen, for example, has sent the familiar LEGO wooden duck and its family on a Christmas trip through Billund. The creation is titled Quacking Home for Christmas.
Another piece of Billund history has also found a place in the gallery.
Italian builder Francesco Spreafico has built Ole Kirks Hus – the former home of LEGO Group founder Ole Kirk Kristiansen.
And American builder Maxx Davidson has turned his attention to one of the town’s newer buildings.
In his creation, LEGO House has been transformed into a giant gingerbread house that little minifigures are busy decorating.
Billund also features as a destination in several of the other creations. Canadian Bryce Duyvewaardt, for example, drew inspiration from his own travels between Denmark and Canada and built a mosaic using more than 12,300 bricks, while fellow Canadian Nick Della Mora has created a wintry journey from Canada to LEGO House.
The exhibition consists of 17 creations in all. The others take visitors on a journey to Mexican Christmas traditions, Filipino star lanterns and an Australian summer Christmas with kangaroos and a Santa in shorts.
The exhibition, which opens today, can be seen until the end of the year. After that, the so-called AFOL builders – adult LEGO fans – will return to Masterpiece Gallery in 2027, when LEGO House celebrates its 10th anniversary.
