It was supposed to be more than enough just to take part. But 20-year-old Magnus Sønderby from Almstok and the team behind the short film “Alt i Intet” did more than just have their film screened at the international Four River Film Festival in Croatia.
They won. And they didn’t just win once.
They came home from Croatia with three awards, along with three of Magnus’ friends and filmmaking collaborators.
“Alt i Intet” won Best International Fiction Film and the Audience Award. On top of that, the film received a Special Mention for Best Editing.
– It’s been an incredible experience to show the film internationally and see how it connected with the audience in a way we could never have predicted, says Magnus Sønderby.
Sent it off almost for fun
BillundOnline previously reported on the 15-minute short film, which Magnus and the team spent around a year creating. The film follows a young man struggling with the grief of a lost love, and the project began with no expectations of winning international film awards.
When the film was finished, the team started sending it to festivals abroad, almost for fun. Then came the first surprise.
Four River Film Festival had received 1,593 films from 103 countries, and “Alt i Intet” was among just 33 international films selected for the festival programme. At the time, Magnus called being selected “a huge pat on the back”.
Now they have three awards to add to that.
The dream got a little more fuel
Magnus has had film in his blood for a long time. As a child, he made stop-motion films with LEGO at his childhood home, and today he is studying film and TV production.
When BillundOnline spoke to him before the trip to Croatia, he was open about his ambitions:
– I hope I can make a living from it. My dream is to become a film director.
That dream can hardly have got any less fuel after a week in Croatia and three awards in his bag on the way home.
