That’s what the addresses could be called in the new Nordic Shopping area east of Grindsted.
At today’s meeting, the Technical, Planning and Climate Committee will decide the names of the four new roads to be built as part of the upcoming retail area.
The administration recommends using the four Nordic capitals as a theme, and has also tried to match the endings to the layout of the roads. That’s why Oslo becomes Osloringen, while Stockholm gets Stockholmstrædet.
Politicians will also have a more traditional option to choose from. In this version, all four names end in “vej”: Helsinkivej, Københavnsvej, Oslovej and Stockholmsvej.
Potato Road was also on the table
The road to the Nordic capitals has been somewhat winding.
The MARK Museum suggested, among other things, old varieties of potatoes and sugar beets that have been grown in the area. When the varieties’ names were considered too unfamiliar, the administration took the idea further and made it a little more down to earth:
Kartoffelvej, Roevej, Havrevej and Majsvej.
But the project developer wasn’t keen on the idea. They felt that crops didn’t fit the image Nordic Shopping should have.
The project developer specifically wanted the road names to support the area’s Nordic profile. So the Nordic capitals ended up as the administration’s proposal.
GrindstedArkivet has also joined the search for names and suggested, among other things, Nordic twin towns with links to the municipality. They were rejected because it was thought that few people today would know about the connection.
Now it’s up to the politicians to decide whether future shopping trips east of Grindsted will go via Helsinkilunden, Osloringen and Stockholmstrædet – or whether they’ll take the more traditional route along Helsinki-, Oslo- and Stockholmsvej after all.
