There could be more art on the way to Grindsted Anlæg. And this time, it’s not just something the young people have to look at. They’ll help create it themselves.
A group of local organisations have joined forces to create an art pavilion close to the artwork heartspace til headspace, which was created by young people from Headspace Billund together with artists Tine Hecht-Pedersen and Pontus Kjerrman back in 2023.
The idea now is to build on that project with a new public meeting place, with room for art, community and a cosy break in the middle of the park.
And the young people won’t just get to share their opinions on the project. They’ll get hands-on with the materials themselves.
Together with the artists, they’ll create a mosaic bench from recycled materials and make hand-shaped roof tiles. The pavilion itself is planned to be built by local tradespeople, using oak and materials from the local area.
Those behind the project include Headspace Billund, FGU, STU, Grindsted/Give Uddannelsescenter, UngBillund and Unge- og Kulturhuset.
The municipality must give the green light
The whole project is expected to cost around 400,000 kroner, which the project group will try to raise through foundations, local contributions and sponsorships. But before anything can be built, the politicians must give permission. The pavilion is to be built on municipal land, so political approval is needed before the project group can apply for a building permit.
At the same time, the municipality must decide whether it will cover the expected annual maintenance costs of around 15,000 kroner. Of this, 10,000 kroner has been set aside for possible vandalism, graffiti and minor repairs.
The project has already been granted an exemption from nature protection rules, but the deadline for appeals is not until 9 October.
Now the politicians on the Youth, Employment, Culture and Volunteering Committee must decide whether the project can take another step towards becoming reality.
